Help The Midwest To Do Its Best! VOTE DEMOCRATIC On Tuesday!

2018demwomen

The latest primaries for the November election are adding up to a historically diverse field of candidates. Four states voted last Tuesday, and the results were fantastic for Democrats. This Tuesday, on August 14., four more states will vote, in races that are absolutely crucial to the Democratic Party.

Democratic senators are up for re-election in both the Minnesota and Wisconsin primaries, where success is critical to our chances. Tina Smith is running to continue serving the rest of Senator Al Franken’s term. Senator Amy Klobuchar is also up for re-election.
These are some of our best people, and we need them. We are going to find every way to support them that we can.

Because of the dirty trick that got rid of Al Franken, Ms. Smith, a Democrat, took office in January as a temporary replacement after Mr. Franken resigned. Now, as she is running for the final two years of the term, Republicans hover vulture-like, hoping to pick off the seat.

In the Wisconsin primaries, incumbent Democrat Senator Tammy Baldwin is up for re-election. She too is the best. While the Republicans squabble, Tammy Baldwin is holding a week-long series of listening sessions across Wisconsin. The listening tour was invented by Hillary Clinton, who is undoubtedly proud.

Baldwin said her “In Your Corner Tour” was engineered to counter “special interests and out-of-state billionaires” who have spent more than $11 million trying to defeat her.

“It’s powerful special interests who call the shots,” Baldwin said in a news release. “I’ll hear directly from Wisconsinites who want Washington to start working for them.” Well said.

Paul Ryan’s mid-April announcement that he will not seek re-election for Wisconsin’s First District shows the peril that the Republican majority in the House faces. Our choice for his replacement is Cathy Myers, who Emily’s List also chose.

Both a school board member and a teacher, Myers is a consummate professional and a solid Democrat besides. She is sensible and tough and in touch with the reality faced by her constituents. If we had a Congress filled with folks just like her, we could keep up with anyone in the world.

Going forward, we’ve got to keep one thing in mind.

There are only 86 more days between now and the general election. This is the time for us to fight for power in earnest. The country is in a big mess, and the only way to clean it up is to vote Democrats into office this November.

See you at the voting booths.

Blue Wave, Red Trough- World Comes Down on Trump and GOP.

#NeverTrump

Donald Trump and the Republican Party are both in full meltdown. Over the course of this chaotic week, we have seen just about everything go wrong for these people.

It was not even five full days ago that the FBI raided the office, home and hotel room of Michael Cohen, President Donald Trump’s personal attorney.

Since then, CNN Editor-at-Large Chris Cillizza has pointed out that there has been the staggering figure of twenty-six major headlines dealing with the Trump administration. With thanks to his assistance in compiling the list, we thought it was best left in the raw.

What a week.

For the purposes of posterity, every one of these things should be kept an eye on, so that we might raise awareness about them. But in the here and now, it’s only necessary to look at the general trend. You don’t have time to examine each drop of water in a flood, nor is that necessary, in order to understand that it’s time to seek high ground.

Nor have things been better for the other Republicans, which is good. Not in the history of America, have we seen a weaker and more morally bankrupt set of criminals stinking up the halls of our great government.

But at least one of them will soon be gone! Paul Ryan, the highest-ranking member of the House of Representatives is the latest to join a flood of Republicans to decide against seeking re-election. He wasn’t even the only one to do so that day.

GOP Representative Dennis Ross of Florida told his hometown paper that his fourth term in the House will be his last.

This is all very ominous, for the GOP. A Blue Wave, and a Red undertow.

In this world, there are few things certain, but one thing we can count on is being presented with bills to pay.

For Donald Trump and the GOP, the check has bounced.

As this was going to publishing, a determined Western coalition including the United States, Great Britain, and France launched strikes against targets at three sites in Syria in the early hours of Saturday morning, following a week of threats of retaliation for an alleged chemical weapons attack on civilians in the Damascus enclave of Douma.

The world is teetering on the brink of war, this morning, and the worst people in the country are in charge of running it.

Sleep well, America!

GOP Passes Worst Bill In History- Merry Christmas, America.

Here's hoping the GOP eats lunch together!

“This is the point where Republicans in both chambers are staring at the clock and hoping the time to the House and, more importantly, Senate votes ticks away quickly.”

“That doesn’t mean everyone’s on high alert for some late-game problem(s) popping up.”
It’s as if they all think passing laws is a kind of football game. High excitement! Victory, defeat, agony, joy- What a fine piece of theatre it all makes!
Only thing is, the price of admission for it all is pretty high. And as always, it’s the little guy who’ll get stuck picking up the bill.
I was therefore tempted to name this piece “The Ravaging of the Nation by A Puke Orange Cannibal”, but was talked out of it. Still, the phrase does neatly cover the facts.
We’ve repeated ad nauseum what a vicious piece of legislature this new bill is; at this point, everybody knows. But they actually passed it, in spite of it all.

House Speaker Paul Ryan said Tuesday he anticipates that the deeply unpopular Republican tax bill will win public approval only after its “results” become apparent. What public are we talking about here? The Legions of Hell?

It looks like Bob Corker was bought off with that new real estate provision. Susan Collins too gave her assent, despite having taken a principled stance on other key issues this year. Disappointing and tragic.
There should be no mistaking this one. What just passed the House will likely mark a drastic watershed for the United States. The names of the men responsible will soon live in terrible infamy.
The mid- and long-term effects of the plan will be nasty right away; a massive drop in public investment, and a very nasty case of heartbreak and unrest given to the people for the holidays. Trump or no Trump, no one will be saying Merry Christmas this year. Happy Holidays is pretty much out as well.
Decades of declining spending on infrastructurescientific researchskills training and other core government agencies are going to have the same effect on the country as waiting too long to get an oil change.
The United States can’t count on past investments forever. The Washington Post’s Fareed Zakaria said simply that with this legislation, we are ushering in a bleak future.
In other news, according to Democrat Jackie Speier, rumour has it on Capitol Hill Trump is planning to fire Special Counsel Robert Mueller as early as later this week. The convoluted process by which this atrocity might possibly take place is its own article. We mention it here because as a distraction from the tax plan, this was clearly a big help to Trump.
It’s almost an application of Henry Kissinger’s old “madman” policy from the Nixon days, e.g., You’d better make a deal with us because the guy with the keys is crazy. God only knows what he might do. In this case, the implication was, “You’d better back off, and let us have our tax plan victory, or we’re going to fire Mueller and destroy your whole democracy”.
They’ve been preparing the groundwork for an attack on the Special Counsel for the last month or so now. It’s really quite despicable. This damage the Republicans are trying to do to this man- a fellow Republican!- and his reputation reads in terrible volumes about the state of partisan polarity in our government. Mueller was the best FBI director in the nation’s history.
Going forward, it’s important to keep our spirits up and our focus sharp. The Republicans have passed their own demise in the form of this tax bill.
All we have to do is take back the Congress in a year. It’s going to take them forever to actually get stuff like their net neutrality rules and their tax plan in place. If we can retake the Congress in 2018, which becomes more plausible by the day, we can still fix this. #TheBlueWave.
Furthermore, young people like us have a perfect opportunity to help. All we need to do is make our voices heard. Ingenuity and determination are our generation’s strong point. Since that cataclysm of a tax plan is passed, we will accept it with forbearance. We’ve got a plan to deal with it. We’re on the path. All we have to do is keep walking forward. Together.
However, just as this article was about to publish, news broke that the House will have to re-vote on the GOP tax plan!
The Senate Parliamentarian found three violations to the Byrd Rule, which governs the budget process that Republicans use for tax reform. These violations have set the bill back a full day of House voting. Democrats have bought us some time.Perhaps a meteor will smite all the Republicans on their way back up the Hill tomorrow. Here’s hoping.
