GOP Sells Out America on Russiagate- Stand While You Can.

We are living through what is perhaps the biggest week in the entire Russiagate saga thus far. It reads like a grocery list, so we’ll just get started.

Andrew McCabe, deputy director of the FBI, resigned under pressure. He essentially was forced out.

Republicans on the House Intelligence Committee voted to release an illegally altered staff memo alleging FBI surveillance abuses relating to the Trump-Russia investigation.

FBI Director Christopher Wray’s warning that some of the information is classified and there are “material omissions of fact that fundamentally impact the memo’s accuracy” has been ignored.

The US House Intelligence Committee’s top Democrat, Adam Schiff, immediately castigated Republicans for going so far as to physically amend a prepared memo about claims of FBI surveillance at the 2016 election.

“This is not about the facts,” Schiff said. “This is about a narrative the chairman (Nunes) wants to put out – a misleading narrative, to undermine the FBI, undermine the department and ultimately undermine Bob Mueller.

These changes were made minutes after the Committee signed off on it, and minutes before turning it in to Donald Trump. Two other memos on the subject are also floating around, but those are not likely to reach the public. What a surprise.

Next, within minutes of the committee vote, the Trump administration announced that it will not impose the new sanctions on Russia.

Both the House and the Senate voted nearly unanimously (another guy who refused to make that vote was Bernie Sanders) for the sanctions, but this also was ignored, even though earlier in the same afternoon CIA chief Mike Pompeo released a report of his conclusion that Russia is preparing to hack our midterm elections.

There have already been sanctions in place for Russia’s annexing of Crimea in 2014, and for its repeated aggression and provocations in Ukraine and elsewhere. This new set was intended to punish Russia specifically for meddling in the 2016 presidential election. But Trump, the beneficiary of all this hacking, has paid off for his master in a big way.

Looks like Vladimir Putin has finally made his next move.

They’re calling it his Saturday Night Massacre.

Leading Democrat Adam Schiff suggested the White House would use the memo, if released, to fire Robert Mueller or Department of Justice head Rod Rosenstein.

In December,Trump accosted Rosenstein, who appointed Mueller, regarding his personal loyalties. He wanted to know whether Mr Rosenstein was “on my team”, CNN reports.

That’s the same sort of Hitler-esque loyalty oath he asked James Comey for. When he did not receive it, he recklessly fired Comey, opening this door and kicking off this whole process in earnest. That type of nonsense is what makes him an extremely useful idiot to Putin.

Russian TV was filled with glee, their jubilant anchor boasting that “Trump is ours again!” according to translator Julia Davis.

By subverting the Congressional Republicans, Putin has delivered the most tremendous blow yet to our democracy. This is a far greater coup than subverting one slovenly old debtor.

Trump in and of himself is nothing. He’s a babbling imbecile. No one pays him any mind on his own except his deplorable base.

The Supreme Court and Chief of Staff John Kelly, the real President, have done what they can to restrain him, but what’s really kept him from getting much done is incompetence.

With Putin there to provide strategic guidance, however, and both houses of the Congress in the hands of his Republican allies, Trump’s capacity to deal out damage in this whole mega-treason becomes enormous. The casual observer wonders about the purpose of a visit paid to Pompeo by top Russian spy chiefs, ostensibly to discuss counter-terrorism measures, earlier this week.

The actual Saturday Night Massacre refers to the incident of then-President Richard Nixon fired Archibald Cox, the Special Prosecutor assigned to handle the investigation of the Watergate scandal. It ultimately led to his impeachment, but not before doing much to complete the ideological cleaving of America. And the Congress that went through with getting rid of him was not the same creature as that of today.

We cannot be lulled into believing that this Congress will have the same sort of stomach and decency as the one that prepared to oust Nixon. Democrats hold neither house. And these Republicans have acted without conscience at every vote. There is not a sound reason to trust them, especially after the way they conducted themselves in regards to this anti-FBI memo.

The two top Democrats in Congress, Chuck Schumer and Nancy Pelosi, have called for the removal of House Intelligence Committee chairman Devin Nunes in the latest development in a fierce battle over the chairman’s classified memo.

This development places us in the worst situation we’ve yet seen. The essence of it is that the Republicans and their billionaire masters, like the Koch brothers, have willingly turned a blind eye to everything for the sake of the fat tax cut they got. They’re bending right over for Putin.

Many of them are showing signs of indigestion of the conscience, as evidenced by the fact of so many of the GOP leaders in Congress retiring, but it’s a little late for that. They have already proven willing to accept anything for the sake of that money, even the death of our democracy and subservience to a foreign dictator. There’s no going back now.

On Wednesday, South Carolina Rep. Trey Gowdy, chairman of the House Oversight Committee, became the third GOP lawmaker in just the past week to announce plans to leave Congress at the end of this term.

“Washington’s not a very pleasant place for anybody,” said former representative Tom Davis, a Virginia Republican who retired in 2008. “The public hates you.”

The nature of their plot has now become as obvious as it was shortsighted- to take the money, and run before the Nuremberg trials start up.

Make no mistake, Democrats- We are on our own this year.

If the Blue Wave is indeed going to sweep over this country at the midterm elections, we are going to have to work very hard, because nobody is going to do it for us. We can expect no help whatsoever dealing with Russian cyber-aggression from the government, because we are not in control of the government. It is our opinion that everyone should be really careful.

Even earlier today, Millennial Democrats experienced a bruteforce attack. This hacker, from Lviv, Ukraine, tries this all the time, which does at least save us the trouble of having to assemble fresh pictures.

First we get an alert, as in Exhibit One.

Bored, uncreative loser who tried to hack me
Exhibit One- a turd who tried to hack us.

Then we go to a site called WhatismyIPaddress.com, and take a look at where the culprit’s from. The details thus given can be seen in Exhibit Two.

Creepy.
Exhibit Two- Lviv is a very famous place, world renowned for the quality of its IT experts. Unfortunately, it is also the host of this parasite.

We are going to need to stick closely together, as the only thing we’ve got left is one another. The Republicans are active hostiles. The Russians are digging in deeper every day. And we have no central leadership at all. If we don’t stand up now, we will never again be able.

A Media Monopoly- Koch Network Funds Time Inc. Buyout.

Wicked adversaries

History has taught us that the media industry in Washington is capable of posing a considerable threat to our democracy. It stands to reason that a sound and empowered federal regulation ought to exist, one capable of holding media outlets accountable. There’s got to be a mechanism overseeing the news, to see it stays within the bounds of reason.

Hardly any such protections exist, however, and haven’t since the FCC disposed of the Fairness Doctrine in 1987. President Bill Clinton observed this is not a topic frequently discussed by the media giants who govern our screens.

The world of American media is currently going through some fundamental changes. As part of this massive transformation, media companies have dramatically increased efforts to wield influence in Washington.

With a massive lobbying presence, and a steady dose of campaign donations to politicians on both sides of the political spectrum, big media has been pressuring the government to allow it more consolidation. A corollary goal involves privatizing and commodifying the internet.

The media controls the information flow. It has acquired an unparalleled power to reach into people’s lives. If consolidated and twisted to authoritarian purposes, it would turn into a weapon of terrifying strength. Any would-be dictator would naturally perceive this as well, and seek to acquire it.

Therefore, it should come as no surprise to see that the Koch Brothers are providing $500 million of the cash needed to buy out Time Magazine.

Meredith Corp., a magazine publisher and broadcast company, will acquire Time Inc. in a deal totalling $2.8 billion, the company announced Sunday.

The Koch brothers are the domestic source of most of the worst indignities we have suffered these last ten years. All of this is a part of their grand strategy to eliminate government interference from the business sector. Anti-monopoly laws, anti-pollution laws, anti-public aid laws. These things cost the likes of Koch Industries a lot of money every year. This is why they are willing to spend so much to get rid of them in the long run.

They are the money behind many Republicans like Scott Walker, for example, the governor of Wisconsin who used a lousy backdoor bill to cripple the school system there. It was a crucial step in breaking the backs of unions nationwide and in inciting conservatives to wickedness.

If the Koch Network comes to dominate the American media, it will probably come to dominate the American government shortly thereafter.

If that happens, all hope of turning humanity back from the road to ruin it has started down is lost.

Stephen Hawking warned in July that if we don’t desist from the course we’ve been on, global warming will become so bad that Earth will “become like Venus, with a temperature of 250 degrees Celsius, and raining sulfuric acid.”

He also predicted that humanity’s natural greed would prevent us from properly addressing the problem.

None of this matters to the Koch brothers, however, whose fervent commitment to libertarianism- laissez-faire, dog-eat-dog capitalism- coincides precisely with their foremost, bottom-line interest: the elimination of government regulations aimed at containing toxic pollution and ozone-damaging emissions.

Koch companies are spewing these everywhere. Around the country, around the clock. And the only power strong enough to hold them accountable is the government.

However, there is one sure way they can succeed in tipping the balance against governmental regulation.

Seizing control of the government itself.

The Kochs have been planning this out for a long time. Their father, Fred Koch, was a co-founder of the John Birch Society, which can fairly be considered the centre of neo-conservative politics.

The trademark tenets of its philosophy include liberalism being the root of all evil, mistrust and hostility toward persons of color and other groups of at-risk persons, and a deep seeded fear of change. It is typified by racism, nationalism, and an ideologically devoid will to power. It carries within it the essence and spirit of fascism.

This is why they are paying so much money to take control of Time Magazine is one of the most highly recognizable and respected magazines in the world. To buy it out and fashion it into a vehicle of their propaganda would carry obvious strategic significance.

The tactic is to manipulate the national dialectic through their control of mouthpieces in the right-wing media. Recent shows like The Young Turks suggest their ideas have begun taking root on the left as well. This reality has to be faced and fully realized before counter-efforts will prove effective.

In 1983, journalist and professor Ben Bagdikian published his groundbreaking book, The Media Monopoly, which revealed that just 50 corporations owned 90 percent of the media. That number has gradually dwindled over the years and eventually led us to our current crisis, where more than 90 percent of the media is owned by just six companies: Viacom, News Corporation, Comcast, CBS, Time Warner and Disney.

To take control of the media once and for all, they have only to conquer these six companies. Here, we can look to Russia for a model. Putin did it in the post-Yeltsin era within a couple of years, with a nearly identical strategy.

The concept of the media they share, however, is a far cry from the First Amendment. For Putin and the Kochs, it’s a simple equation. Whoever owns the media controls what it says.

Putin pursues a two-pronged media strategy. At home, his government clamps down on internal communications while at the same time positioning abroad by deploying RT, the international news agency formerly known as Russia Today to challenge Western ideas and warp the lines of truth.

However, there is one key difference. Putin controls Russia’s government so thoroughly that he basically is Russia’s government.

The Koch brothers do not yet hold such power here.

So that is what they’re after. By way of achieving this goal, they have targeted the center with a political pincer attack. Their plan is to employ both ends of the radical spectrum with candidates in line with their philosophies and take over from within.

2016 Libertarian Party Presidential candidate Gary Johnson pointed out during the cycle that “Interestingly enough, the candidate I most often side with, on 73% of the issues, is Bernie Sanders”.

Putin spoke highly of Bernie as well. And it seems an unlikely coincidence that the Justice Democrats, a Sanders-affiliated organization started by Young Turks founder Cenk Uygur, have targeted Democrats nationwide in primary challenges.

“It is time for them to step aside and let us lead. If you want unity, we’re ready to lead,” Uygur said on his popular internet TV show, The Young Turks.

The sheer brazen insolence! How many Presidents have you helped get elected, Cenk? Worthless as can be. Good for nothing but hurting real Democrats.

Any reasonably intelligent person ought to see this is a time when every dollar should be focused on targeting the GOP and waking our country up from the nightmare we’ve been in since last November. We should be sticking together like the opposition is.

As we prepare to enter the New Year, we’re going to be seeing these themes arise time and again. These are all topics we’ve covered before. Media consolidation. Anti-union sentiment. Attacks of governmental regulation of all kinds. It all comes down to economic slavery gift-wrapped with a fancy word, libertarianism.

2018 is the year that we start taking back our country. The only way we’ve got a shot at cleaning all this up is to retake the Congress. All our energies will be given to keeping #TheBlueWave alive.

There is a reasonable alternative to the pandemonium created by conservative greed and the current administration. Please join us in the task of helping the concept evolve.

A New Year’s Resolution for Democrats- Taking Back Our Country.

Now back to work.

I find myself physically shaking my head as I think about 2017.

What can we say about it that has not been said before? Obscenities? Pleas to God? Somehow, words run dry.

Since the 20th of last year, we have been beset on all sides, as if a dam had burst its floodgates. Back then, I felt like a croaking soothsayer in a Shakespeare play, shouting into the wind.

Above all, defeat was stifling. It left us with little to do except sit around in groups and think tanks, trying to figure out where it all had gone so wrong. And by March, many brave warriors from the election cycle were sick of the whole debacle. Extended trench warfare is a terrible thing psychologically.

We lost people here and there in trickles. It was hard to see them go, but it was awesome to watch a hardcore form until only the most dedicated remained. We cleaned up the Groups and we started to tighten bonds. Our foxholes we dug deep, and our trenches we shored up well. We slowly built the infrastructure we will need to build this movement. And now, we’re seeing those people trickling back.

It was around April or May that the anti- Democrat cyber-invasions started on Facebook. When you get fifty, sixty new members requests a day, in a Facebook Group that’s got six hundred members, it makes you start to wonder. And when you see the same thing happening to every single group in your whole network, you know for sure. We’ve passed the point of thinking it might just be paranoia.

It was clever how they did it. They noted that Americans tend to lose interest in politics a few months after a big election and expected our groups to be sitting ducks for sleeper cells. They were organized and they were motivated. It showed up pretty clearly that for the opposition, there’s no such thing as an offseason. So we took no days off either.

I can hear the fireworks of the New Year crackling and booming in the distance, and I wonder what this particular new year is going to bring with it.

I hear the explosions and I think of Kim Jong Un in North Korea, triggering seismic shifts on his own land as a Fourth of July gift to the world.

One thing only is certain. We have got to make serious headway in cleaning this mess up, and we have to do it this year. Last week Doug Jones of Alabama was officially certified as the victor of the Senatorial race he fought against Republican Roy Moore. He will be sworn in officially on the third of January.

The victory of Jones has given us Democrats a plausible path to taking control of the Senate again next November. It did not exist before then. That combined with #TheBlueWave that started building this November when we won in Virginia and New Jersey has given us a very real momentum. Our job as activists is to help that momentum grow in every way we can.

The key now is to find new ways to tie ourselves together. The stronger our bonds are, the firmer our solidarity. People stay true to their convictions when they can still draw strength from those who share them. It’s when they cut us off and make us feel small, that people start to shake loose from the coalition. But we’re not going to let that happen. We’ve got a no-man-left-behind policy, and we are not accepting any casualties.

The clock has turned, and we have entered 2018. Very soon now, we will be coming out of the trenches, and rushing to the battlefield with everything we’ve got.

This is bigger than America. It’s bigger than Russia, and it’s bigger than Trump and Putin. This is a world war between ideologies. It’s the age-old struggle between authoritarianism and democracy and must be fought anew in every generation.

As we go forward into the New Year, we have got to assume it’s going to get worse before it gets better. A lot worse. The first obstacle is going to be fending off more than four hundred primary challenges from the so-called Justice Democrats, people who ought to be our natural allies, at a time when every dollar is needed to take the Congress back from the Republicans.

It’s unbelievable and it doesn’t make sense unless you assume their intent is to hurt loyal Democrats as badly as they can. But nevertheless, that is our situation. We must make the best of it.

Our plan is simple. We intend to take back our own ideas from the radicals who have usurped them. We will meet our opposition on every battlefield we can find.

This will be a historic year for the Democratic Party, no matter what. This will go down in the books as the year we rallied, came together, and cleaned up our country’s backyard.

The path ahead is finally clear. We will simply make a New Year’s resolution. We will keep the faith and work as we have never worked before. Next week, the whole circus starts up again in earnest.

This is likely to be a midterm year like no other in history. It’s going to be a mess, and it will take every bit of us all to get it done, but it is possible. Momentum and midterm tradition both favour us. Happy New Year, fellow Democrats. We’ve survived the first year of Donald Trump. We’ve earned it.

#TheBlueWave Sweeps America, In Spite of Bernie Sanders.

On Tuesday night, the Democratic Party began taking back our country. Today, you could feel it in the air. People have hope again. I could see it on their faces, as we walked down the street. Everyone was excited and happy, chattering in line at the Starbucks about it. It was the first good day we’d had in exactly 365. Democratic victories provided some much-needed vigor and relief to some people who have really deserved it. It’s huge.

The Democrats need to get back into power before things will start making sense again. We’re the only ones who’ve got the plans and skills. Trump has made people sad and tired. Many feel beat up by it all. But rather than sulk in despair, or let it sap our strength, we Democrats have been working. Day and night. Like bees building honeycombs, we have worked endlessly to strengthen bonds, build bridges, and create an infrastructure that is sleek, slick, and sexy.

Last night, things started coming back to sanity. We won. We finally have the momentum again.

Last year this evening, we were all of us devastated. Beyond all hope, beyond all reckoning. The editor of Millennial Democrats literally sat down and cried, speechless with shock. It was one of the worst days our times have ever seen. Not only because we realized how bad Trump was going to be; that was predictable. Even his voters knew it.

Fortunately, however, a combination of incompetence and our legal system protects us from a lot of Trump’s worst ideas. He doesn’t really understand how things work. He’s a very limited man. I have a neighbor from New York who’s got Alzheimer’s disease. The first time I heard Trump at a debate, I was stunned by their verbal similarity.

Another guy who sounds just like Trump is Bernie Sanders. It is hard to believe the nerve of that guy. He pretended to be so pure and holy last year. Like he had all the answers. For a holy man, though, he sure took losing badly, and so did his supporters.

I saw in the paper today that Bernie refused to endorse Phil Murphy in New Jersey. The reason why is petty in the extreme. Murphy has long been the favorite in the race, thanks to a Democratic electorate and New Jersey backing Hillary Clinton in 2016, and not him. That’s what really matters to Bernie these days, not things like progressive values or voting records.

Otherwise, why not support Murphy? The New Jersey Democrat supported markedly similar issues that Sanders touted during his 2016 presidential campaign. Murphy campaigned on a single-payer health-care system, a minimum wage hike to $15 and free tuition to public college and trade schools.

That set of goals is right out of Bernie’s playbook. He should be ecstatic to see a bright young guy picking up his ideas and winning with them! Why won’t he be happy for us? For himself? For the world? None can say exactly.

Clinton supporters, at least before last June, would have gladly voted for Bernie if he would have won. We all wanted a lot of the same things. The only difference was that Hillary Clinton could explain how she was going to do them. Bernie couldn’t. Therefore the choice as to who to support was clear.

But as I made my decision, I also realized that Bernie had touched a nerve, and I understood why.

The turn of the millennium was a very hopeful time for us elder millennials, those born closer to 1980 than 2000. From the time we were little kids on, it was all we could ever talk about. We all believed so strongly, with our little hearts, that it would be an amazing time to be alive.

When George W. Bush got into office, we saw all that ripped to pieces within a year.

We were mad. We grew up wearing Che Guevara shirts, listening to Rage Against The Machine, and listening to our parents talk about the great social struggles of the 1960’s. We knew what the word revolution meant. Remember in 2003, when they locked up Chong for selling bongs on the Internet? Operation Pipedream, John Ashcroft called it. That phrase was better applied to their whole pointless War on Drugs.

I can get how a lot of us would have gone for Bernie’s spiel back then.

Instead, they all waited until things had gotten better under Obama before they started making all that mess? It was a disaster.

Bernie also refused to endorse Governor Ralph Northam’s campaign in Virginia. Again, we have to ask why?

Tthe only answer is sour grapes. Northam easily beat his primary contender, Bernie’s man Tom Perriello. He, of course, was for Bernie last year.

Perriello, however, is far from an ideal progressive. He’s another one of Bernie’s anti-abortion candidates, like Nebraska’s Heath Mello, guys perfectly willing to compromise on woman’s reproductive rights.

A woman’s right to choose is an absolute core value of progressive ideology. Bernie’s career-long disregard of it is one of many things to make him unpalatable to me after I did my research.

It was also not so long ago that Perriello boasted of his A rating from the National Rifle Association, which was a result of his opposition to an assault weapons ban.

Let’s get real here. Bernie didn’t endorse Perriello because of his policies. He did it because Perriello is one of his cronies. Murphy and Northam were not.

Bernie Sanders has a really mean and overcompetitive side to him. That was clearly visible by last June, by which time he had ceased to resemble Mr. Rogers.

It is that unfortunate tendency that keeps him from helping real Democrats. He thought he was just going to show right up and start taking over the show. Unfortunately for Senator Sanders, we made it quite clear to him that he and his fanatic followers are not at all going to waltz in here and take us over, regardless of Cenk Uygur’s insolent hashtag, #WeWillReplaceYou.

Time for some real talk. He is bitter about losing. He tried to hijack the Democratic party. He never intended on joining us for a second, although he lied all the way through both 2015 and 2016 and said he would. He hates Democrats and always has. He once said that JFK made him nauseous.

Well, you can’t please everybody, and there’s no real sense in trying, at least past a certain point. We recently extended a formal invitation to Bernie to join us, and he laughed it off as a “distraction”. That’s too bad. Even after everything that’s happened, to both Bernie and his followers, the offer of reconciliation is open-ended. It’s on the table for life.

We know Bernie and his people are not the real enemy, even if they do insist on slandering us as such. We’ve got a counter-hashtag for Mr. Uygur, respectfully- #WeWillEmbraceYou. If you ever come around, our doors will still be open.

In the meantime, however, Bernie Sanders has proven every way he can think up that he is no friend to us and our causes. That leaves us with little choice but to exclude and ignore him. We don’t need any spoilsports moping along behind us right now. We don’t have the time for it.

After last night’s sweeping victories, Democrats are riding the crest of a gigantic Blue Wave. It is a miracle. It is pure electrical momentum. It’s going to hit the hapless and bumbling Republicans with the rush of a terrible storm next year. And 2020 is going to be a massacre like never before.

Bernie and the Justice Democrats seem determined to continue their futile flailings, but they’re just wasting their money and time. It’s too bad they won’t join forces with us, but we’re done letting it slow us down. We’ve got a lot of work to do. As Bob Dylan sang, once upon a time, “Your old road is rapidly fading. Get out of the new one, if you can’t lend your hand, for the times, they are a-changin”.

Bernie Sanders is the one leading progressive in America still sulking on the sidelines, rsentful and mad because he feels like the Democrats won instead of him. But we don’t see it that way. It could have been his victory too, had only he given the help he was begged for.

We feel this to be a victory for all of life on Earth! This is a highly significant time for us. We have got to grab this momentum we’ve built up, and run with it as far as we can. We’ve got no time for spoilsports. Bernie and the Justice Democrats can do as they please. We’ve got work to do, and anyone who’d like to lend a hand is welcome. The view from up atop this #BlueWave is truly glorious. You might just like it here.
