Forever #NeverTrump- The State Of The Union.

Effigy

Millennial and most Democrats have made plans tomorrow evening.

A growing number of Democrats say they plan to boycott and otherwise protest Donald Trump’s first State of the Union address.

When Trump goes through the usual presidential motions, it’s important that we always are there to boycott it. We have resisted, and are going to keep resisting any tendency to normalize or accept his rhetoric and politics. The causes are innumerable, but some of the examples cited were reports this month that Trump questioned why the U.S. accepts so many immigrants from “s—hole countries” in Africa and that the U.S. didn’t need more people from Haiti.

Trump was going to fire Robert Mueller last June.

Trump spent his MLK Day at his golf club in West Palm Beach, Florida. The only event on the White House daily public schedule was the flight that brought him back to Washington in the afternoon.

More than 60 Democrats skipped Trump’s inauguration.

Several Democratic lawmakers, like House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi, are planning to wear black, in honor of the #MeToo movement. Others have decided to boycott the address altogether.

Democratic Representative Gregory Meeks of New York said the following. “At every opportunity, he’s disrespected me and individuals who look like me,” Meeks told MSNBC on Sunday. “I cannot respect him.”

Neither can we, sir.

Democratic Representative Maxine Waters of California had the following contribution to make to the discourse.

“Why would I take my time to go and sit and listen to a liar?” Walters said on MSNBC’s All In with Chris Hayes on Jan 12.

“I don’t appreciate him and I wouldn’t waste my time sitting in that House listening to what he has to say. He does not deserve my attention,” Walters added.

Nor that of the rest of us, for that matter.

Democratic Representative Barbara Lee of California’s press secretary told KQED that Lee decided to miss the State of the Union even before Trump’s “shithole” countries comments.

There was ample reason to avoid even sitting in the same room with the man, long before he ever took office. Now that he is there, however, it has become an imperative.

Sean Spicer apologized to Trump for embarrassing himself in an interview today, and it’s true that he was spectacle during his time there. But it’s not his fault entirely. There was only so much he could do. Ultimately, his great failing was not being able to lie with audacity enough to fill the position’s demands.

There’s no shame in having a soul.

Trump is his own shame, of course, except that he’s too brazen to know it. He couldn’t even manage to print out his tickets right. Invitations nationwide were thus rescinded, to President Donald Trump’s State of the Uniom Address– yes, you read that correctly.

None of this is news to anyone, of course, and that’s the biggest reason of all why this is necessary. We can’t allow Trump to be normalized because he has done nothing to normalize himself. He shows no signs at all of wanting to get himself right. It’s unlikely he’d even be able to.

Democratic Representative Joseph Kennedy III, D-Mass., has been the one chosen to deliver the Democratic Party’s formal response to whatever Trump decides to spout out tomorrow night. Perhaps a happy glimpse of the future waits for us in that contest.

Until Donald Trump has been removed from the Oval Office, the State of the Union will be an obscenity. Those who know it must use this opportunity to speak out. If we all get together, we can make a statement about America that the world needs to hear. It’s clear the time has come.

Never Give Poland To Hitler! Schumer Rejects Trump’s Immigration Plan.

Trumpolini

Democrats have roundly rejected Donald Trump’s callous new immigration plan, on the grounds of common sense and principle. As if we were all at a gigantic auto meet, he plans to pressure us to swap the future of our DACA recipients, or Dreamers, for that stupid wall of his.

Trump told Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer(D-NY) the following- If there is no wall, there is no DACA. Unbelieveable.

This is America. We don’t ruin and discard hundreds of thousands of lives, over a pile of bricks and cement, in America. These are people. Not baseball cards.

The Cambridge English Dictionary defines the word “callous” as describing someone who is unkind, cruel, and without sympathy or feeling for other people.

Trump’s new immigration scheme is an excellent working example.

Since it’s Trump, the tendency is to want to avoid shock and revulsion at a story like this, having been shocked thus so many times before, but it simply isn’t possible.

When did Trump voters become so afraid? What is it that has scared them so? These rhetorical questions point the way to a dead and sordid end.

At any rate, Democrats have flatly rejected the whole repugnant concept. Looks like we’re headed for another shutdown.

Although the plan did provide a quick fix security option for Dreamers, it would have done so at a cost of tremendous damage to the immigration system.

The deal was to provide a 10-12 year pathway to citizenship for the 700,000 Dreamers already registered in the program, plus roughly another million undocumented young people in similar straits.

In exchange, Trump’s White House expects Democrats, and pro-reform Republicans, to accede to proposals that will cut even legal immigration by an estimated 50 percent. Particularly, it will be limiting the flow of non-white immigrants.

It will also squander $25 billion on the wall.

That’s a lot of extra taxes, but the Trump voters don’t seem to understand. It’s like they still think Mexico is footing the bill.

House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi summed up the plan simply as “anti-immigrant.”

Senate Minority Whip Dick Durbin (D-Ill.) said Trump’s plan would institute Trump’s “hard-line immigration agenda on the backs of these young people.”

“President Trump and Republicans cannot be allowed to use Dreamers as a bargaining chip for their wish list of anti-immigrant policies,” said Sen. Dianne Feinstein (D-Calif.).

As tempting as it is to give in to this, to protect our friends and our family, it would empower and embolden Trump immensely. The Wall was a signature campaign promise, and news of that $25 billion would have proved to his base once and for all that he’s their man- and many others too, most likely.

After that, they’ll be twice as greedy and twice as aggressive. We have no choice but to stymie them with steadfast resistance. This is the only logical way to proceed.

Trump would not stop with this, of course, even if we did give in. Tyrants never do.

Appeasement is a dirty word for a reason.

It means giving in to brutal dictators, meekly giving in to bullying force.

Above all, it casts the image of the 1938 Munich agreement, where the British prime minister Neville Chamberlain feebly gave in to the outrageous demands of Adolf Hitler, agreeing to allow the violent annexation of Sudeten Czechoslovakia without protest.

Hitler had promised Chamberlain that this would be the last of his territorial demands in Europe but still attacked Poland just under a year later, destroying Chamberlain’s reputation and beginning World War Two.

Never give Poland to Hitler.

Going forward, we are going to be raising awareness about what this plan actually consists of. We’re not going to accede to Trump’s insane demands. But we also have to make it clear why we said no.

Trump wants to use this proposed path to citizenship for young undocumented immigrants as an excuse to devastate the legal immigration system. This cannot be allowed.

“This plan flies in the face of what most Americans believe,” Schumer said on Twitter. While Trump “finally acknowledged that the Dreamers should be allowed to stay here and become citizens, he uses them as a tool to tear apart our legal immigration system and adopt the wish list that anti-immigration hard-liners have advocated for years.”

Schumer’s decision marks the strategic direction of the Democratic opposition.

We are not going to accede to any deal that’s going to hurt the country in the long run, and it’s really sad that our own President would put us in this position. It is sadder still that he sees nothing of value in all these people than a bargaining chip in political negotiations.

We have to find a way forward on immigration that will not come back to haunt us in the future.

Democracy Aflame- Trump Almost Fires Robert Mueller.

Stick up for Robert Mueller

The New York Times reported Thursday evening that President Donald Trump ordered the firing of Robert Mueller last June. Mueller is the Special Prosecutor assigned to investigate Russian interference in our 2016 election cycle. He is also the best hope we have of getting out of this mess in one piece.

In June, Chris Ruddy, a close Trump friend and Mar-a-Lago member, said after a visit to the White House that he’d overheard a discussion about the president considering firing Mueller.

Ultimately he decided not to go through with it, after White House counsel Don McGahn threatened to quit instead of carrying out the order.

That seems like a pretty thin line of defence against something of the same type actually happening in the future.

This news is very big. It means that Trump drove us up to the brink of a constitutional crisis and took a good long think about driving us right over the edge.

The pretext he’d planned to use was that Mueller had once been a member of his golf club who quit over an argument over fees.

The kind of ridiculous insanity displayed by that line of reasoning has been the hallmark of Trump’s time in office. It’s that kind of thinking that’s got him going around poking at the North Koreans. He does not seem to grasp the idea of consequences. To Trump, regard for the law or the social contract is something for poor people and losers. But while he will not be around much longer to suffer for these decisions, the rest of us will.

In America, we have always had the time to stop and take a look at what we want our futures to look like, and how we want our lives to go. We choose a path, and we stick to it as well as we are able.

If things keep on as they have been, that is going to go away forever. To millennials, who must soon adapt to the post-Trump America, this is of the utmost concern.

This is the way that democracy dies. People stop caring about it. They cease to understand why it is valuable. And by the time they wake up to the fact, it is often too late.

Plato observed that political regimes follow a predictable evolutionary course, from oligarchy to democracy to tyranny.

Oligarchies give way to democracies when the would-be elite classes become decadent and develop interests apart from those they rule.

Democracies give way to tyrannies when mob passion overwhelms political wisdom and a populist autocrat seizes the masses.

The one constant is that the tyrant never starts out looking like a tyrant. On the contrary, in a democracy, the tyrant most commonly arises in the guise of the people’s champion. To this man, every trust is given. He’s the one man who can make everything whole again.

We all know who this reminds us of.

With Trump, we have a glimpse of what this sort of evolution looks like: A vulgar right-wing populism has emerged out of a maelstrom of anti-establishment hysteria from both sides of the political spectrum. Trump has been trying to play the part of a strongman fascist, right here in America. He views Mueller as a threat and wants him gone.

He began to argue for Mueller’s firing just days after his appointment to investigate the president’s 2016 campaign for collusion, the source said.

The revelation comes right as Mueller’s investigation appears to have intensified. Members of his staff in December finished an initial round of interviews with all of Trump’s senior White House staff.

In an impromptu press conference on Wednesday, Trump said that he himself may speak to Mueller’s team in the next “two to three weeks.”

Clearly, this is a terribly ominous sign.

Lawyers involved with Mueller’s investigation know that too.

“It’s one more brick in the wall,” said a Washington lawyer representing another senior Trump aide in the Russia probe.

Vast numbers of Americans have already made preparations to protest if Trump’s firing of Mueller becomes reality, a reaction similar to the public response after Richard Nixon’s Saturday Night Massacre. On that infamous evening, Nixon ordered the firing of special prosecutor Archibald Cox. It ultimately led to his impeachment, but not before doing much to complete the ideological cleaving of America.

A report by the National Constitution Center summed up how well the whole scheme worked out for Nixon.

“Within hours of executing this Saturday Night Massacre, a firestorm of public protest erupted that led to the appointment of a new special prosecutor, the subpoenaing of dozens of additional damning tapes, the drafting of impeachment resolutions … and the ultimate unravelling of the Nixon Presidency.”

After the Saturday Night Massacre, the percentage of Americans who believed that Nixon should resign jumped from 19% to 38%, and reached 57% within six months. These kinds of low numbers are also reminiscent of Trump; it would be interesting to see how many of us currently think Trump should resign.

There’s a very real chance that if Trump pulls this he will get away with it because people cannot possibly be more disgusted with him than they already are. His base would cheer him on.

We also can’t be lulled into believing that this Congress will have the same sort of stomach and decency as the one that prepared to oust Nixon. Democrats hold neither house. And these Republicans have acted without conscience at every vote. There is not a sound reason to trust them.

Going forward, we will need to keep the closest possible eye on this and sound the alarm every way we can. Trump will do this if he thinks it will save him.

And besides. Nothing screams out the necessity for a blood-feud like golfing fees.

Back then, Chris Ruddy said during an interview with Politico that “It(the firing of Mueller) could trigger something well beyond anything they ever imagined.”

It is to be hoped that those words are never put to the test.

Water from the Rock- Dems Gain Toehold With Shutdown.

Dems win.

Democratic leadership in the Senate has managed to draw water from the rock. The weekend-long filibuster that shut down the government succeeded in extracting concessions on the immigration issue from a hostile majority party and insane White House.

The Senate vote to reopen the government was finally confirmed after it became clear Democrats were going to continue to block the spending bill over what do about young people affected by DACA until Republicans agreed to grow a soul.

The Republicans did not intend to compromise at all on this issue, and right now they hold all the cards. But ultimately, they did.

That is a measure of victory.

A government shutdown is not a joke.

The last shutdown happened in 2013 and lasted 16 days.

Nearly 800,000 federal employees were out of work without pay.

More than a million other working employees had their paychecks delayed.

According to estimates by the financial services company Standards & Poor’s, the last government shutdown cost America $24 billion, or $1.5 billion a day.

Democrats forced the shutdown with a heavy heart. We demanded a vote on legislation to protect Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals recipients from deportation after Trump unexpectedly cancelled the program. The final agreement involved a vote on the issue by February.

GOP Sen. Lindsey Graham of South Carolina appeared alongside GOP Sens. Susan Collins of Maine and Jeff Flake of Arizona, and made the following statement. “Here’s what I predict. Once we start talking about immigration and voting on immigration, we’ll find 60 votes to make sure these DACA recipients’ lives are not ruined by March 5.”

Critically, we were also able to secure funding for the Children’s Health Insurance Program(CHIP). Monday’s deal to end the shutdown included a six-year reauthorization of the program, which will go on without any children losing their health insurance.

Still, it’s important not to try and cast a light on this whole incident as a win for us. It wasn’t. There was never any path to a victory here.

On Monday, a senior Republican aide told CNN that McConnell wasn’t planning to provide any firmer commitment on immigration than he already has.
“If that’s not enough for Democrats, then we’re in this for the long haul,” the aide added.
That leaves us with a hard road ahead.
It’s like the old Steinbeck book, In Dubious Battle. Sometimes you have to fight, even when you know you’re going to lose. And that’s what we just did. We took a stand. Many of our guys are up for re-election next year, in states that Trump won by a lot. It took a lot of courage.
Progressive holdouts are shrieking bloody murder, of course, but that was going to happen no matter what.
It’s a noble struggle that was just undertaken, actually. And the ones who kept on holding out were risking nothing in so doing; they’re not up for reelection this year. They’re just posing as presidential candidates.
There’s no doubt they’re doing all they can to make our lives difficult, and it’s becoming harder to hold the center because of them.
Here’s the thing, though- All of them are lemmings. The only thing that has stopped them from hurling themselves off a cliff so far is us. If we are not able to hold them back, they will all get rid of themselves. History has already proven this. George McGovern, the Bernie Sanders of his day, was slaughtered so thoroughly by Richard Nixon that his entire electoral concept- as visualized by him- was essentially refuted on the spot.
In the real world, adults who want to make actual progress have to be realistic. Sometimes compromises with people we’d rather not deal with are necessary.

Our Democratic leadership put their own necks on the chopping block and shut down the government for the sake of our Dreamers. They are now being raked over the coals from both angles, and that is just lousy.

They are national treasures, and we are very proud of them.

Going forward, we’ve got to raise awareness of how much we actually accomplished given the circumstances.

Democratic activist Sheila Jones wrote to us on the subject.

“The issue will not now be debated only behind closed doors in Congress. It will be decided in the public forum, and 87% of the public is for DACA. So we can wipe the floor with them.”

We’ve got to stick up for Chuck Schumer. And we’ve got to prepare ourselves to fight this whole battle again, in three weeks. See you in the trenches.

Occupy the Women’s March! Bern-Crazed Leaders Must Go.

#VoteForTruth

A year ago, millions of people turned out for the Women’s March, taking to the streets en masse to protest Trump’s inauguration.

On the one year anniversary of that grotesque event, millions of demonstrators gathered on Saturday in another Women’s March, galvanized by the national resistance to Donald Trump and his administration’s policies.

2017 was a year that saw a deluge of revelations about powerful men abusing women. Ultimately it led to the creation of the #MeToo moment.

The disaster that is Donald Trump has pushed activists across the board to demand deeper social and political change. It is happening. It is spectacular. It’s one of the strongest outpourings of social engagement this nation has ever seen, and it’s a good thing, too. We need this power now more than ever.

There were millions of good people out there this weekend, marching for the rights of women everywhere on Earth. Magnificent. Unfortunately, wherever there is power, there will always be those who seek to divert it toward some partisan purpose.

It is the opinion of Millennial Democrats that to co-opt something so crucial for unsavoury political purposes is just scummy. And make no mistake- that is what they are doing.

The people who are running this Women’s March need to go. It’s as simple as that.

In a column Tuesday bearing the headline “When Progressives Embrace Hate,” New York Times editor Bari Weiss took a close look at the women who organized the effort. The picture thus painted isn’t pretty.

Hate is a strong word, one that should not be thrown around lightly. But the statements and actions collected by the four women— Tamika Mallory, Bob Bland, Carmen Perez and Linda Sarsour—behind the march tell a sad tale.

These are some of the opinions espoused by Ms. Sarsour as collected by the New York Times.

“Nothing is creepier than Zionism,” she wrote in 2012.

From 2015- “You’ll know when you’re living under Shariah law if suddenly all your loans and credit cards become interest-free. Sound nice, doesn’t it?

The article showed Ms Sarsour speaking of women’s issues in the most crude and cruel terms one can imagine. They were worthy of Donald Trump, only he couldn’t do as well. He’s not smart enough.

The comments were utterly vile and do not bear repeating, so we’re not going to repeat them.

Instead, let’s give particular attention to this sentence, drawn from another New York Times article written earlier today.

Progressive women are eager to build on the movement and translate their enthusiasm into electoral victories in this year’s midterm elections.”

Sure enough. Earlier this year, when we found out their 2017 Women’s Convention was going to feature Senator Bernard Sanders at its keynote speaker, we knew what they were up to.

What they want to do is use the momentum they’ve built up at the Women’s Marches to switch the focus from legitimate women’s issues to their chosen candidates at the ballot box.

Those candidates are all to be so-called progressives. Many will be entering politics not to compete with Republicans but to primary out Democrats, which is an old Republican trick by now.

Analysts were quick to note that in so doing, women’s march organizers are following a Tea Party strategy, attacking Obamacare and the president himself to help the Republican Party win control of the House of Representatives in 2010.

“There’s a deliberate attempt by women on the left to take a page out of the same playbook,” said Melissa Deckman, a professor of political science at Washington College who has studied the Tea Party.

Those are Libertarian techniques. The Tea Party arose from the John Birch Society, the centre of radical right politics in America. Their playbook features every dirty trick on the Republican itinerary.

Taking pages from a playbook means you’ve got to have been reading it pretty closely. That’s a big red flag.

We have noted the similarities between the far left and the far right on many occasions here. Their convergence can be seen clearly from the results of the 2016 election. Hillary Clinton said that Bernie Sanders laid the groundwork for Trump’s later “Crooked Hillary” attacks, and she was right.

It seemed strange to have any man be the keynote speaker at a national convention for women, but we’ll leave that aside for now. If that’s what you want, fine.

But can we at least not pick someone whose lurid essays on rape fantasies made us want to vomit? Can we pick someone who isn’t willing to compromise on reproductive rights? Isn’t there somebody around who did not build a literal army of misogynists last year, to constantly attack his female opponent with? Remember when he said she wasn’t qualified to be the president?

The results of our election were compromised by Bernie’s rabid fanaticism. And one of the things he was best at was appealing to the baser instincts of men.

Tamika Mallory, co-founder of Women’s March, thought otherwise.

“I think that right now, no one can deny that Bernie Sanders is probably one of the most powerful U.S. senators … on progressive issues, women’s issues, mobilizing millennials. He is really in line with the principles of the Women’s March,” Mallory said in an exclusive interview Wednesday night.

This point of view can only be described as moronic.

It’s admirable that the organizers of Women’s March are willing to stand up and get involved. It’s also true that no organization or even individual can escape being political, in the wake of Donald Trump. But come on! Bernie Sanders? He’s been on the wrong side of every single issue this year. He did not endorse either of the Democratic governors that started off #TheBlueWave this last November.

That choice was an insult to every woman everywhere, many of whom were dragged savagely through the mud last year by his maniacal supporters. One of our contributors was told that they hoped she was gang-raped, due to her refusal to support their chosen master. And on the subject of rape, look at what Bernie himself wrote on the subject! Just don’t look right after lunch. They might as well have invited Harvey Weinstein.

Women got so mad, so fast, that Bernie backed out as fast as his legs would carry him.

But he left his proxies behind. And they were quick to announce their intent.

Linda Sarsour, for example, tweeted out late in the primary season that “Bernie had changed her life” along with a picture of her framed with the Sanders family.

The aforementioned Tamika Mallory, Women’s March co-president, said at that time she felt Sanders was the perfect fit for the convention, describing him in a statement as a “fierce champion of women’s rights” and someone who has bolstered “female voices throughout his career of public service.”

Bernie has said that Planned Parenthood is the establishment. He says women would prefer to stay home. He penned essays arguing that sexual repression causes cancer in women.

Tamika Mallory’s statement was the absolute height of idiocy. Her invitation to Sanders was a travesty. Feminists nationwide were outraged by it. And they had every right to be.

As usual, our task will be to raise awareness. The magnificent success and noble principles of the Women’s March are being co-opted for the use of Bernie Sanders and the Justice Democrats. We have to let people know.

People aren’t always doing good things for good reasons. It’s important to credit the organizers of the March with the tremendous and crucial successes they scored today.

It’s equally important to realize that they intend to cash in on those successes, to the tremendous and crucial detriment of the country and the Democratic Party.

Going forward, our strategy is simple. We’ve got to Occupy the Women’s March.

Two Minutes To Midnight- A Looming Shutdown.

Two Minutes To Midnight

Senator Chuck Schumer of New York, the Democratic Senate Minority leader, wrapped up a closed-door meeting with Trump at the White House, as these words were being written.

Trump, the self-billed master negotiator, would not make a deal to avert a shutdown. Or to spare the misery of uncertainty to 200,000 recipients of the Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals(DACA) program.

Schumer told reporters outside the Capitol: “We had a long and detailed meeting. We discussed all of the major outstanding issues. We made some progress, but we still have a good number of disagreements. The discussions will continue.”

Every time this comes up, it’s enough to blow my mind. I just can’t believe it. Who cares where they were born. These are Americans. Millennials, mostly. People we went to school with. To have them all ripped out of our lives, and sent tumbling backward into a place they’ve never even been to, over a wall that would be good for nothing but a big mess and an eyesore?
Leaving all the rest aside, fixed fortifications never work. The Great Wall of China is the one human creation we can see from the moon. Neat. But did it save the Chinese when the Mongols came to conquer them? No! They just hopped right over it!
This as compared to the demilitarized zone between North and South Korea. Nobody crosses it. Ever. The zone is so free from human habitation that flora and fauna live there that can be found nowhere else on Earth. The will to keep people out is there and enforced with absolute rigor.
There’s also no wall.
Democrats and any other citizens of conscience have no choice here but to push for a solution for recipients of the Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals program and insist that it be addressed before the next deadline Friday evening. That is now about four hours away and counting- and it’s not clear whether the two parties will reach an agreement by then.
A senior White House official gave a rather miserable summary of the day’s meeting, confirming that a lengthy list of obstacles still remains. But he was eager to tell everyone it was “cordial”, i.e. Trump was wearing pants, and he did not hop up on his desk and defile the bipartisan proposal in the manner of a baboon.
That’s the progress Chuck Schumer was referring to.

So what does a government shutdown mean, and how would it affect our lives until it ended?

Every federally funded agency, program, and service will be classified “essential” or “non-essential”.

If you’re a government employee, depending on which category your agency falls into, you may not be going to work tomorrow. Worse yet, you may be going to work tomorrow without compensation.

The military is essential, of course. But if the government shuts down tomorrow, servicemen won’t receive money for their work until it reopens.

Agencies and departments who are classified nonessential, including agencies that pay out small business loans and process passport requests, will cease to work until Congress is able to agree on a bill for the federal budget. Their employees will be on furlough.

The last time the government went through a shutdown was in 2013. Afterwards, everyone who stayed home was paid retroactively after an agreement was reached in Washington, but this administration couldn’t be more different than the one running the show in 2013. Trump is mean and vindictive. He will seek to punish and destroy. He will do everything he can to deny those people payment, so he can turn around

In the Art of the Deal, Trump writes, “Go for the jugular so they won’t wan’t to mess with you.”

And that’s all this is really about. Going for the jugular. Viciousness and cruelty as a legitimate means of deterrence. It’s the political equivalent of a countersuit. The ghost of Roy Cohn must be gnashing its teeth in glee, down there in hell.

The one positive is that Robert Mueller’s investigation will continue unhampered. In every other way, this is very bad news.

My mind just keeps coming back to my friends.

One guy I know is really good at detailing cars. The very best.

Another man I know has had a kind word and a smile for me, every day I’ve known him. Some days I was really down, and it helped, just to have a human interaction, to be reminded that I wasn’t alone.

I would miss that man. Very much.

The situation is terrible, and the maniac in charge of it will not bend just out of spite. We can’t either. It’s impossible. Such a thing can never be.

It’s either stand up for our Dreamers or accept the end of every American value that has meaning.

As we proceed forward into these last few hours, it’s important to take stock of why this is happening- and to bear witness. Donald Trump, the Nero of our time, the tyrant and petty dictator who is gambling with the futures of 200,00 human beings, will be vilified by this for all eternity.

By glorious misdeed, he has made himself renowned. After this step, he will not turn back.

His frenzy, feeding on its own violence, with outrage ever fresh will mark his days.

But in the end, the people, sick and tired, will add his name to the list of his other victims. And in the days to come, his name will transform into a slight to cast at other wicked presidents.

The very name of Trump will be an insult.

A Headless Snake- Cenk Uygur Out At Justice Democrats!

#JusticeHypocrites

Cenk Uygur, who was the first and the loudest to shriek for the blood of former Minnesota senator Al Franken, is no longer a Justice Democrat. His own people ousted him after blogs surfaced in which Uygur and a crony are making some truly repugnant comments about women.

In the posts, Uygur claimed that he was “done” dating any woman if he hadn’t felt their breasts by the third date. There was talk regarding three teenage girls whom he described as “whores in training” and “literally looking for boys to pick them up.”

Women, they said, were “genetically flawed” if they don’t want to have sex often enough.

When the news first broke of the Justice Democrats attacking Al Franken, and Cenk leading the charge, I couldn’t help feeling a bit puzzled. It didn’t quite jive with what I remembered of the Young Turks.

Isn’t this the same organization that featured a reoccurring 2009 segment called “Guess The Camel Toe, with Ana Kasparian”How pure is that?

The whole concept of the organization was an idiotic joke from the start. The organization purported to help the causes of the Democratic Party by getting rid of our best leaders, who invariably are those who refused to line up behind Bernie Sanders in 2016.

Their plan is the administration of “purity tests“(see the Brand New Congress website) to our elected Democratic leaders. Only by way of this, Cenk and his cronies said, can we force the Democratic Party to comply with our directives.

Anyone who wasn’t “progressive” enough for the former conservative is to get in line or face primary challenges from the left, in this most crucial year of midterms.

They know full well it’ll take us all working together to unify and beat back the wave of Trumpism washing over the country. They know we want our country back on its feet more than anything, and that there’s nothing we won’t sacrifice to get it there.

So they used our fervent patriotism to try and strong-arm us into handing them over the reins of power.

This will never happen, as they have proven themselves unfit in every way. Irascibility and an exclusionary attitude will not win you the love of the people. Nor will it win you any elections. But the simple fact remains, that’s what they want.

“It is time for them to step aside and let us lead. If you want unity, we’re ready to lead,” Uygur said on his internet TV show, The Young Turks.

The sheer brazen insolence! How many Presidents have you helped get elected, Cenk? Worthless as can be. Good for nothing but hurting real Democrats.

What kind of sense does it make, to throw primary challenges at Democrats already holding office? None, of course. But that’s what they’re doing.

The Justice Democrats formally came together with the Brand New Congress back in March, with the intent of getting rid of every Democratic candidate everywhere who will not line up behind Bernie. They are the biggest, the wealthiest, and the best organized of the fake-left organizations we will have to fight this year. Of all the splintered fragments of Bernie or Bust, this one is the most dangerous.

Or at least, was the most dangerous.

So the real question now is, how long will the body live on without the head?

The famous French chemist Antoine Lavoisier is often said to have arranged an experiment before his execution by guillotine where he would try and blink as many times as possible before his head finally died. It is said he managed 15-20.

Maybe Cenk ought to hit the medical journals on the subject. He’ll have a lot of time on his hands coming up.

Although it is satisfying to watch a jerk get jerked around, it’s also important to make one thing clear. It is the opinion of Millennial Democrats that a few lewd comments made in one’s youth should not be enough, by themselves, to make a person unfit to lead.

The whole incident also provides a sad commentary on the hypocrisy of the entire organization. It is not showing signs of developing adult principles like maturity or forgiveness, or even the makings of their own progressive values which would require believing people can change.

It’s childish to cut down your own leaders over imperfections in their values so you don’t look “hypocritical.”

Liberal activist Carl Benjamin, who previously endorsed Justice Democrats, said such actions ring of a “power play” over the founder they “knocked off.”

The Democratic Party that Millennial Democrats have been fighting for has always valued due process and due diligence, rather than hasty and emotional throwing of our own to the wolves.

The great thing about being a Democrat is knowing that other Democrats can be counted on to take your back when the enemy throws a low blow at you. If we lose that, we lose everything.

This is exactly what Senator Al Franken was not able to count on recently. As a result, there has been a massive backlash against the people responsible, like our good buddy Cenk, whose own past is obviously less than admirable.

At the end of the day, it’s important to remember that all of us are people. We all said and did stupid things when we were younger. If that’s enough to disqualify you as a leader later in life, then no one can have the job. The Justice Democrats and Cenk Uygur are learning this the hard way. And too late.

Preserving the Dream- Martin Luther King Day in the Trump Era.

First MLK Day in the Trump Era

Martin Luther King Jr. Day is a holiday of special importance. It’s a day on which Americans come together, to mourn the passing of a man who gave his life for the betterment of mankind, and to celebrate the vitality of the magnificent dream he built his life around.

We celebrate our diversity on this day, together, because we know that’s really what makes America great. Variety is the spice of life.

Past years have seen American presidents take it seriously. In 1983 President Ronald Reagan signed a bill making Martin Luther King Jr. Day a federal holiday. Since then, US presidents have typically observed the holiday publicly, making remarks or attending events honouring the day.

Donald Trump spent his MLK Day at his golf club in West Palm Beach, Florida. The only event on the White House daily public schedule was the flight that brought him back to Washington in the afternoon.

Ultimately, it’s best he didn’t try, as anything he could possibly have said would have been a ludicrous falsehood. He’s said enough already.

” I’m not a racist,” Trump said, to a room full of reporters on Sunday. “I’m the least racist person you have ever interviewed.”

Whenever people go around talking about how not racist they are, they’re lying.

Trump also took the opportunity to further deny that he had used the term “shithole countries” to describe Haiti and a number of African nations, but everybody knows.

The problems with Trump’s attacks on persons who are not rich white men seems to grow bigger every day.

News outlets and social media accounts have been overflowing with reports of a whole variety of hate-fueled attacks. Slate.com catalogued 1064 such incidents of this kind to take place since last January.

The Southern Poverty Law Center has repeatedly criticized the president for his attitudes and conduct, categorizing the net of their emulation as “the Trump effect“.

It has called the syndrome a virus in our country. It has catalogued 1064 such incidents since Trump took office last November. Most Americans have heard of Charlottesville’s victim Heather Heyer by now. Sadly, she is far from being the only casualty.

Members of the Ku Klux Klan were arrested for stabbing three people in Anaheim, California.

Student Richard Collins III was killed by a white supremacist days before his graduation from the venerable HBCU Bowie State University. A man named Sean Urbanski walked up to him as he waited for an Uber with friends, and allegedly yelled, “Step left, step left if you know what’s best for you!” As this directive was not complied with, Urbanski stabbed Collins in the chest.

In other news, Cliven Bundy, the white rancher who decided to forcefully conquer government land a while back, was set free on Monday.  The incident didn’t lead to violence, but that’s only because President Obama happened to be a kindly man. They just turned off their electricity and waited until it got cold for them all to surrender, which they did.

It’s doubtful that even many Trump supporters would argue it would have happened the same way if Cliven Bundy and his followers were black.

During the eight years of the Obama presidency, we made progress in the field of anti-racism. But whenever progress is made, there’s always going to be a period of reaction. We are seeing a wave of reaction now that is very powerful.

Plainly stated, the deplorables will never forgive any one of us that voted for Obama. Those who dared to put a black man in a White House will be hated by this type for all eternity. Because no matter what they do, no matter what laws they unwrite or what executive orders they reverse, they can never go back in time and make it so that all of our Presidents were white again.

And that’s what it’s really all about. Ann Coulter said it with total candor, Adam’s apple bobbing like a cork in a wine bottle. Make America white again. That’s the great America the Trump supporters recall and want back. That’s what they thought was great about it.

It’s a sad thing.

At any rate, a new study has shown that support for Trump is correlated with a standard scale of modern racism.

A higher level of contact with diverse groups of people has been shown to reduce prejudice.

2016 study found that “the racial and ethnic isolation of white people at the zip-code level is one of the strongest predictors of Trump support.” As such, it’s important to note that Trump’s white supporters have experienced significantly less contact with minorities than other Americans.

This makes it much easier to fear and hate the people they consider outsiders. History has shown us where that goes.

On April 4, 1968, James Earl Ray stood in the bathtub of a shared bathroom, balanced his rifle on a window ledge and shot Martin Luther King Jr. dead, as the civil rights leader was standing on a balcony outside of his motel room.

The same animus that drove that hateful crime is alive and well and cavorting in the streets of today’s America. And it is getting stronger. Every day that malignant orange tumour is polluting the Oval Office is another day the problem gets worse.

However, we are not without recourse. By coming together in unity, by organizing, by refusing to accept, we can outlast any dictator. We’ve got to keep raising awareness, and we’ve got to keep speaking out.

“Our lives begin to end the day we become silent about things that matter”. – Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.

Sessions Declares War On Weed- Legalization Derailed.

Cannabis

Is Jeff Sessions coming after medical cannabis?

The simple answer is, As fast and as hard as he can.

Jeff Sessions hates cannabis. He hates cannabis much more than he hates, say, racism. He once jested of the Ku Klux Klan that he “thought they were okay, until he heard they smoked marijuana”.

So since he ended up the Attorney General, he’s using his power to lash out at something he hates.

But the real question is why? Science has proven it to be a highly effective treatment for a whole galaxy of different ailments. It also has no harmful side effects and is non-addictive. When you take it away from people, they end up on painkillers and after that heroin. There’s a heroin epidemic.

He’s filling prisons up with people for heroin already. The prisons are full. They are so full that states are desperate to somehow clear up bed space. There are more than two million people in some phase of our incarceration machine as these words are written. Many things are terribly wrong.

As the Attorney General, it is incumbent on Mr Sessions to use his power to solve these kinds of problems.

The War on Drugs has been the biggest failure in American history. In spite of all attempts to regulate man’s appetites with legislature the problem has continued to grow. It’s high time it was brought to an end, and every sensible person is aware of this.

Including Jeff Sessions.

The War on Drugs has never been about drugs. It’s about power. Who’s got it, and who’s going to keep it.

One of their most useful strategies is to hamstring young people who are likely to be Democratic leaders and voters later in life. If they can hang a tag on you as a drug offender, they can disqualify you from holding office in the eyes of many.

If they can make you a felon with a weed case, they can stop you from voting. Millennials, ask yourselves: How many smart, cool people do you know who have had to do time over drugs? That is no accident.

Sessions knows full well that many on the left smoke pot. This is about hurting Trump’s enemies.

“The Nixon campaign in 1968, and the Nixon White House after that, had two enemies: the antiwar left and black people,” said former Nixon domestic policy chief John Ehrlichman.
“You understand what I’m saying? We knew we couldn’t make it illegal to be either against the war or black, but by getting the public to associate the hippies with marijuana and blacks with heroin. And then criminalizing both heavily, we could disrupt those communities,” Ehrlichman said. “We could arrest their leaders. raid their homes, break up their meetings, and vilify them night after night on the evening news.”
Ehrlichman’s comment was the first time the war on drugs was so starkly characterized as a political assault designed to help Nixon win, and keep, the White House.
Nixon’s public explanation for his first piece of legislation in the war on drugs was delivered in a message to Congress in July 1969. The law was framed as a response to an increase in heroin addiction and the rising use of marijuana by students.
We’ve been here before.
Rep. Earl Blumenthal (D-OR), one of Congress’s biggest advocates for legalization, blasted the “outrageous” new guidelines as “perhaps one of the stupidest decisions the Attorney General has made” in a statement, and stupid it may be.

But it’s consistent with his ideology and the political strategies employed by his generation. There is no doubt whatsoever he will do all the harm he can to the cannabis industry.
So basically, where we’ve come to now, is a state of affairs in which you pay taxes on the weed you buy at the store- but you can still go to prison for it. It is the opinion of Millennial Democrats that everyone should go back to being very, very careful. For no good reason whatsoever.
What a world.
Coretta Scott King, the widow of civil rights leader Martin Luther King Jr., urged Congress in a letter to block the 1986 nomination of Jeff Sessions as federal judge, saying that allowing him to join the federal bench would “irreparably damage the work of my husband.”
Today, on Martin Luther King Day, let’s take a few minutes to remember that.

DACA Stays! Trump Fumes Helplessly as Renewals are Granted Wholesale.

#DACA #Dreamers

U.S. President Donald Trump blasted the federal court system as “broken and unfair” on Wednesday after a judge from the heroic 9th Circuit blocked his administration’s vicious move to end the Deferred Action on Childhood Arrivals(DACA) program protecting young immigrants brought to the United States illegally by their parents.

Something in the federal system is broken and unfair, at any rate, and today, like every other day, we’re going to have to be talking about what.

We’re going to do what we always do, and have done for ten days short of a year now. Raise awareness of the fresh and daily travesties granted to us by the infinite wisdom of the president, and the ramifications they will have going forward.

What a lot of fun! I can’t tell you how pleased I am, every morning, to feel a sick pit of nerves in my gut every time I open up my computer, wondering what new horror the day is going to bring.

It’s like that for most Americans these days; earlier this year, a nationwide survey by the American Psychological Association showed clearly that a majority of both Democrats and Republicans are concerned about the future of the country.

This time, Trump has tried to use the lives of 200,000 people as currency to trade for that stupid wall of his, by threatening to end the aforementioned DACA program. He knows we’ll never agree to it, trying for it is just posturing.

Even Trump knows what an ineffective waste of time that wall would be. It was never really about building anything. It was just some cool-sounding thing he liked to say.

The wall has become a symbol of Trump’s entire failure of a presidency. It’s representative of all the things he thinks he wants to do, but hardly understands, and is ruining with his ignorance and bullying.

He says he wants a great country, a safe country, a prosperous country. So do we! Isn’t that what everyone wants? He’s got the power to do it, too. All he’s got to do is resign.

At 70 years old, it is plainly and simply too late for him to realize that the only way that that will ever happen, is by creating an environment where everyone has a place and a share in happiness. Healthy people will do healthy commerce. Healthy commerce means a healthy economy, and so on.

But Trump is so greedy. He picks out at random the people who he physically resembles- nearly all of whom also want nothing to do with him- and he says to the world, Only these people are important, only they matter, everyone else can be thrown out like the trash because they do not look like Donald Trump.

In effect, that works out to mean that everyone will actually have less, so that a few might feel they’ve got more than a few others. And one or two leeches and ticks at the top like Donald Trump will have basically everything.

Even that chosen few, that master race of welfare collectors, he really cares nothing about. “I don’t need you anymore”, he told a crowd of his own supporters a year ago, in Baton Rouge, Louisiana.

And he meant it. He lies to other Republicans routinely, he uses them as tools and then throws them away. That’s why they’re retiring left and right, like both Ed Royce and Darrell Issa of California. Those two guys were lied to very badly indeed.

Trump told California Republicans that he would not end the Deferred Action on Childhood Arrivals(DACA) program, but he very nearly did it already.

He also lied to them and said that state marijuana would be respected and not interfered with, but Sessions rolled back the Obama-era instructions to leave state weed alone, three days after California announced its new recreational cannabis laws.

This kind of thing is why there are now 31 Republicans who will not seek re-election in November. 19 are retiring outright and another 12 have deluded themselves into running for higher office.

That list is expected to grow in the coming weeks.

There has never been something like this before, and many Republicans know it, even if they won’t say it out loud. The president himself is a probable traitor. He praises Putin, he asked for his help during the debates, and he does nothing to discourage our most hostile foe from presenting a gigantic threat not only to our democracy but to democracy worldwide.

Dianne Feinstein is labelled “Sneaky” and a criminal, for doing her job well, showing the world how the Republicans have been covering up for Trump as he covers up for Putin.

What has happened in this country, when following the precise dictates of the law has become something only outlaws do? When did patriotism become uncool? What has happened to the Republicans? Exactly when did the party of Ronald Reagan start letting the Russians waltz all over us?

Trump threatened Feinstein in the same bullying, childish tone about the “Tough Primary Challenge” she’ll be facing. It’s as if he’s saying, “Oh yeah, lady. That “Justice Democrat” (how much more do we need that these people are not on the level?)coming after you this year? It’s me you’re really up against.”

At the end of the day, California and other states put together a good lawsuit, and the Democrats came through for us again. In a victory for Dreamers, and all Americans, federal immigration authorities quietly announced they have resumed accepting requests for renewals in DACA.

“Until further notice, if you already applied for #DACA and it was expiring, this is your chance to reapply,” California Atty. Gen. Xavier Becerra tweeted Saturday night.

The government’s announcement was made without fanfare Saturday evening. This happy news came four days after a federal judge in San Francisco issued an order temporarily blocking the Trump administration’s decision to phase out the program.

Daddy Warbucks has been foiled again. That’s the only whole fair thing that ever happens anymore.
